Terror - Still Suffer

In a live setting Terror are a gloriously vintage hardcore delivery – mad and indefatigable. They have, moreover, always managed to capture that live energy on record and Still Suffer is no different. This album is staple material for the band: barking, confrontational hardcore with in-your-face attitude and pit-ready defiance. Thematically, we cover familiar genre inspiration: of struggle against adversity, moral outrage, social defiance and community ethos.  Much of that has been pretty much consistent themes on every hardcore record released over the last thirty years or so, but Terror’s sincerity for the case is hard to deny.

In an age when hardcore is changing in style and aesthetic, Terror offer dependability and reassurance that old school testosteronal and simple breeze block riffs can hit the sweet spot. Tracks like Erase You From My World, the title track and Promised Only Lies are bruisers with gang chant backing and concrete slab beatdowns. Terror rarely deviate from an established hardcore template, though their traditional sensibilities have a slight modern slam appeal. Some of the big breakdowns (Destruction of my Soul) will have you wrecking your shed.

It’s uncomplicated, not decorative and terse which is the optimum for records like these. Hardcore albums work best with brevity to maintain their vim and this band are old enough to understand that. An unpretentious, barking record of uplifting urban grit and hardcore.
